Dr. Meredith Gourdine

Dr. Meredith Gourdine pioneered the research of electrogasdynamics: a way to disperse fog and smoke by applying strong electrical force. He was responsible for the engineering technique called Incineraid which aids in the removal of smoke from buildings.

George Carruthers

African American’s in space technology:

George Carruthers invented the far ultraviolet electrographic camera, used in the 1972 Apollo 16 mission. His iInvention also revealed new features of Earth’s far-outer atmosphere and deep-space objects from the perspective of the lunar surface. He was inducted into the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame in 2003.

Lewis Howard Latimer

What’s going on in Black History today?

Did you know that Lewis Howard Latimer was chief draftsman for both General Electric and Westinghouse. In 1873 he invented a ‘water closet for railroad cars’ and drafted the patent drawings for Alexander Graham Bell’s first telephone.

In 1881, Latimer invented the carbon fillament for light bulbs.

David Crosthwait Jr.

David Crosthwait Jr., an African American, created the heating system for New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. He was the first African American to be named a Fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers. True.
